MMS is short for Microsoft Media Server and is designed for streaming on-demand and live digital media via UDP, TCP, etc to Windows Media Player or web browsers using Windows Media Player or Microsoft Silverlight plug-in. MMS only supports to stream limited file types, usually WMA, WMV, MP3. MMS is for file streaming, but there are still users who expect to download videos streamed via MMS. See some examples below:
